Bite sized Recruitment Process Audit: Part 1 How to Develop your Online Employer Branding I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve heard, "There are no good quality candidates out there". When small business owners say that to me, I generally do three things:
Would you apply to work for you? No doubt your company will have invested time and money on it’s brand. A snazzy logo, colour scheme, carefully crafted website copy.
If you want to grow your business and hire more people, your employer brand is no less important than your company brand but it rarely has much time spent on it. This is an opportunity wasted though as investing in how job seekers view you will seriously improve the quality of applications you receive. It’s easy to stand out Take a look at your website. Is it clear what you offer your clients? Your amazing service or unique product? Why should they choose you? What is your USP? Is it clear what you offer your employees? Your website is the first place that a job seeker will go to check you out and see if they’d like to work for you. You need to think as deeply about their wants and needs as you do your clients’. Do you offer a:
You need to be honest and authentic here though. Your Employer Value Proposition (EVP) must be communicated from the top downwards with your leadership team role modelling your values and culture. Making promises you can’t keep is a false economy and will cause new recruits to quickly become disillusioned and dissatisfied with their new workplace rather than encouraging them that they’ve made the right decision to join you. 3 bite sized actions to get you started 1. Develop your ‘Our Team’ or ‘Our people’ page. Let’s hear from some of your existing keen and motivated employees in a short video. At least let’s see some happy team headshots even if it’s just you and the dog. There are some really creative things you can do to make this page stand out and make jobseekers smile. Another option is to write case studies about how some of your amazing employees have developed, grown and progressed in your organisation. 2. Enhance your career page: We’re Growing, We’re Hiring! Come work with Us! What sort of people are you looking for to join your amazing team? How do you select the right people? You can include the outline of your recruitment process here and explain what applicants can expect and how they can prepare for interviews and other assessments. Make it clear you want them to do well and have a friendly and fair process in place. 3. Explain your product or service so that it’s easy to understand. If it’s tricky to communicate what your company does, create an ‘explainer video’ so that potential future applicants ‘get you’. This helps them get to know you and means that people who go on to fill in your application form or send you their CV and cover letter are significantly more motivated to work with you. If you need help to make your website pages come to life with really good videos, I can put you in touch with an expert in Talent Acquisition and Product/Service Explainer Video production. Once you’ve got your Employer Value Proposition out there on your website, you can then integrate it with your social media presence and get onto the radar of the people you want to attract and bring into your team. Good luck with your bite sized journey! If you’d like some expert support to attract great people, direct to your door, please get in touch. Book a call
